NEW YORK – Thursday night Da'Sean Butler hit the game winner at the buzzer to get past Cincinnati. Saturday night, Butler did it again. The West Virginia Mountaineers survived with a 60-58 win over the Georgetown Hoyas as Butler scored his 20th point on a runner in the lane with 4.2 seconds left in the 2010 Men’s BIG EAST basketball tournament championship. West Virginia out rebounded Georgetown 38-24. Chris Wright, Greg Monroe and Austin Freeman combined for 45 of the 58 points scored for the Hoyas. The Mountaineers won their first ever BIG EAST Basketball Championship.

What to take from the tournament – The Big East conference cemented itself as the premier conference in the country. Any team can beat any other on any given day. The “upsets” in the quarterfinals should not have been considered upsets. The Big East is just that deep. This league probably has eleven teams that if selected to the NCAA tournament, could reach the Sweet Sixteen. It’s too bad probably only eight of them will get that chance.
Best USF Player – Dominique Jones
Biggest USF Surprise Player – Toarlyn Fitzpatrick
Biggest USF Disappointment – The seniors. Chris Howard and Mike Mercer
What USF can take from the tournament – They need practice from the perimeter, or Shaun Noriega needs to play when opponents switch to a zone defense.
